TEAC Presentation

The Club made an official presentation of a plaque to Mr. Gavin Muir, Managing Director TEAC Australia on Wednesday 27th June 2001.

Club President Peter Saultry thanked Mr. Muir for his company’s continued sponsorship support since 1988. CEO Football Victoria Mr. Ken Gannon spoke of the significant importance of clubs like Port Melbourne receiving sponsorship, which is so necessary for clubs financial survival. The presentation was also attended by Mr. Barry Kidd, General Manager PMFC.

Boroughs down to Springvale and out of Finals

Port Melbourne suffered a 24 point loss to the Springvale Scorpions last Saturday thus ending their dream of playing in this year’s VFL Final Series. In a low scoring first quarter the Scorpions kicked 2 .2 to the Boroughs 1 goal straight leaving the home side with an 8 point deficit. The second quarter was again a low scoring affair with Springvale kicking 2.1 to the Boroughs 2.2 giving them a lead of 7 points at the long interval. The 3rd quarter saw Springvale kick 8.1 to Port’s 5.3 to open up a commanding lead of 23 points at the last break. The last quarter saw Port Melbourne take the game up to Springvale but unfortunately Springvale moved up another cog to run out winners by 24 points kicking 5.4 to 5.3. Although disappointed with the fact that we have missed a final’s berth supporters can take heart in the knowledge that with such a young list the players will be better for the experience and lift to new heights in season 2002.

Springvale just too good on the day!

The Boroughs with 10 wins from 20 games have improved on last year’s effort and the Club can take heart that with such a young list that we have plenty of room for improvement. With further recruiting and a good player retention rate our squad can only improve for season 2002. The addition of up to 12 twelve QBE Sydney Swans each week strengthened our squad and ensured that each week the team was competitive. With the exception of what could be considered three bad losses the side on all other occasions was capable of winning, this was shown with nine games being won or lost by narrow margins. We look forward to all members and supporters visiting our web site through summer to obtain the latest on player recruitment and summer activities.
